Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger uses less memory than Leopard, supports Classic Mode on PowerPC Macs, and, unlike Leopard, is supported on G3 Macs, so there are good reasons to. See Step 1 below to learn how to reinstall OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.4 (Tiger. Double-click the 'Install Mac OS X. And wikiHow will donate to World Possible. Note: You are allowed to translate my guide into your language, as long as you let me know and allow me to add a link to it here. Introduction BS: This is an easy guide for dual booting OSX x86 104.4-10.4.8 natively on a Windows XP installed PC, without the need of VMware, Linux and Chain0. While many people had success with my guide, there are some failures. Dual-booting Windows with OSX x86 is an advanced operation, and so many factors are invloved to make it work, so I can't guarantee you a success with my guide. Please don't blame me if you use my guide and end up losing your important files. Always backup you stuff first before doing my guide or any other guide!

You never know what will happen! To ensure success in one try, I suggest you read the whole guide once before going along with it. Also a warning here, if you dont follow my instructions 100%, you will have a greater chance of failure! About Hardware: This is important! Before you read any further check Wiki/forum to make sure that your hardware is compatible with the version of OSX x86 you have. To see if your processor supports PAE, SSE2, SSE3, or not, use the free tool, CPU-Z,.

If your hardware is not compatible with the OSX version you have, it's possible that you screw up both your OSX and Windows! So, to save yourself a gigantic headache later, check your hardware carefully now! Many people who had success with my guide are kind enough to reply back with their hardware specs, so you can look through the many pages of replies. BTW, my machine has a single core CPU, if you have a dual core/core duo CPU read this little thing first.

Even though your hardware is compatible with a certain OSX version, the ISO you have may not be the right one for you, some people reported having problems with a particular ISO but things worked out with another ISO of the same OSX version. After you installed OSX on your machine successfully, you can be sure to expect hardware problems.

First of all, most video cards, networking cards (wired and wireless), and sound cards will not work without editing some files inside OSX or installing an 3rd party driver. Other potential problems include USB devices not functioning, unable to change low screen resolution to a higher one, DVD drive not functioning.etc. Read Rammjet's HOW-TOs pinned at the top of the of the forum before you ask any questions regarding hardware problems! - Things you need:.

1. A Patched install ISO that is supported by your hardware, ranging from 10.4.4 to 10.4.8. Note: I used the Myzer 10.4.4/5 ISO, but people reported having success with the following ISOs: - MacOSX10.4.4DVDPATCHEDMyz.iso - Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO - MacOSX10.4.6GoatsecxDVD.iso - osx8610.4.5amd-intelsse2-3.iso - Jas ISOs - Apple.10.4.4.generic.install.dvd.iso - MacOSX10.4.6DVDPATCHEDMyz - Mac-OS-X-10.4.7-AMD.Intel-(JaS)-ISO-Repack - JaS 10.4.8 Intel SSE3 DVD (first release, with 8.8.1 kernels).

Acronis Disk Director Suite 10. Note: Other partitioning tools are ok for partitioning, but you will need OS Selector, which is part of Acronis Disk Director Suite 10. This is necessary!. DVD burning software that supports ISO burning. An empty DVD for your ISO image. Now stop reading right here!

Double check everything, when you are ready keep reading - PREPARING FOR OSX INSTALLATION Step 1. ALWAYS DO THIS FIRST: Backup your stuff!!! I said it before and I will say it again! You know why. Always backup your stuff before following this and any other guide!

You never know what will happen. Setup your harddrive. Install Acronis Disk Director Suite.

After installing it, from start menu, install its OS Selector. When installing is done, OS Selector will ask you to restart, and after you restarting your computer, OS Selector will be active.

You need 2 partitions for dual-boot, one for Windows, and one for OSX. Use the Acronis Disk Director Suite (or any other partitioning tool) to make a partition for OSX from an existing one. Convert your existing partition if necessary.

Make sure your OSX partition is a 'FAT32 Primary' or 'FAT32 logical', no NTFS! I originally did it with a 'FAT32 Logical' then converted it to a primary. But recently I tried to install with a 'FAT32 Primary' and it worked. Some people also reported that 'FAT32 Primary' worked for them, so I guess you can go either way, if one way doesn't work for you try the other one.

The difference: If you go with 'FAT32 Primary' you can save some times later on, you DO NOT have to do Step 7 in this guide. If you go with 'FAT32 Logical' you HAVE TO do Step 7 to convert your partition into a Primary, which could take some time. Also, it's been known to cause problem if your OSX partition is positioned after an extended or logical partition.

So it's best to set up your OSX partition after a primary partition like this: Windows XP OSX backup A full OSX installation takes about 6-7 GBs, so make sure you have enough space for your OSX install and your OSX apps, because later on you wont be able to use Acronis to change the size of your OSX partition. You have to use a partitioning tool in OSX to do that. Which may or may not wipe your data when resizing, I am not sure about this. Making an install DVD. Burning the ISO image's contents to a DVD, dont just copy the ISO as a file to your DVD.

Download Os X 10.4.8

Use the 'Burn ISO Image' function in your software. PART 2: INSTALLING OSX x86 Step 4. Reboot with the OSX x86 DVD in your dvd drive. Put the DVD you burnt into your dvd drive, then restart.

Os x 10.11.4

Do not boot the DVD from OS Selector! When your computer starts press F12 or whatever key it says on the screen to get boot menu. From there select the option to boot from CD-Rom. This should boot your install DVD.

Wait a few moments for the DVD to load up, and soon you will see a gray Apple logo on white background. It will take a minute or 2 for the installer to load up. After that you will see the following screens: Step 5. Convert your partition for OSX. Now you should see the screen 'Select a destination', and it's empty (last picture above). Now on top of the screen, go to Utilities-Disk Utility.

On the left select the partition you made in step 2. Then on the right select 'Erase'. Choose 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' as the volume format and erase it. When you have sucessfully converted your partition to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition, you will see your partition listed as below: Now Select it and click continue and you will see this. Important: Before you start installing, use the 'Customize' option to select what to install.

There are patches included on your DVD, you need to select the right patches you need, some patches included in your OSX ISO may not be for you. If you have an AMD CPU, you need to install the AMD patch, if your CPU suports SSE3 you need to install the patch for it too. If your DVD includes both SSE2 and SSE3 patches, install only one of them, not both. So click on 'Customize' at the bottom and come to this screen. Select the patch you need to install, I have a Intel CPU, so I do not need the AMD patch. You will see a different list of patch if you have a different ISO. Pick the patch you need and deselect the others.

After you click 'Install' you will see these screens. It will take some time for OSX to install.so now it's time that I show you some sponsor ADs for this guide.just kidding. Now it's time for you to take a break or pray for success. PART 3: DUAL BOOTING Step 6. After OSX is done installing, click reboot and remove your install DVD. OS Selector should startup in a few seconds. Both Windows and OSX are listed in OS Selector, you are not done yet, almost there!

(Do this step ONLY if you made your OSX partiton a 'FAT32 Logical' earlier, otherwise, go to step 8!) Step 7.Convert your Mac OS Extended (journaled) partition into a primary partition. When OS Selector loads, go to Tool-Acronis Director Suite. Acronis Director Suite should start, select 'manual mode'. Then convert your Mac OS Extended (journaled) partition into a primary partition using the Convert function.

Select it and right-click on it. Click on the checkered-flag icon to apply the changes, and it will start converting.

Convertion will take some times to complete and it WONT delete anything in your harddrive. After that's done, close the Director Suite and OS Selector will come up again. Step 8.Wooohooo!

Go crazy now, you have dual-boot!!! Now rename your 'Unknown Operating System' to something like 'Mac OSX'.

That's it, you should be able to boot both XP and OSX now. Click on either icon to boot the OS you want. Note: Some people reported that when the 'Unknown OS' is click it will boot windows instead of OSX. A possible fix for this is here: If you boot with OSX you will see this: If you let the counter go down to 0, OSX will boot.

So press any key and this will show up: Press the Up or Down key to select your OSX partition and it will start booting with these crazy texts rolling up from the bottom of the screen: and in the next screen they live happily ever after.eerrr, I mean, you start to setup your OSX for the first time. You can now use OSX!

- Post-Installation Stuff: Boot Time Speedup Mini Guide: (optional, but highly recommanded!) Fact 1: OS Selector is s-s-s-l-o-w.You can speed up boot time by using Darwin or Win bootloader instead. Fact 2: People reported having various problems with OS Selector. You may not have any problem with OS Selector (I dont!). But I suggest you use this anyway. Two options here:. Use Darwin bootloader with OSX as default booting OS: 1. Run Acronis OS Selector in windows, Go to Tools- Deactivate OS Selector, then follow the instructions to apply the settings.

Use Director Suite to make your OSX parition active. Right-click on it - Advanced - Set Active, then apply the changes. Now you should have Darwin boot loader running instead of OS Selector. In Darwin the default booting OS is OSX, and far as I know, there's no way to make Windows the default OS in Darwin.

Use Windows boot loader with Windows as the default booting OS: Use the Chain0 method. Updating OSX: You can't install every update that's available. You can install small updates via Software Update automatically, such as updates to safari, itune, etc. But you can't install system-wide updates like 'Security Update 2006-003 Mac OS X 10.4.6 Client (Intel)'.

You need to either download a patched one released by somebody or a workaround to manually install it (download update from apple's site). Follow this guide to update from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 Oct 13: 10.4.8 patched updates can be found on Demonoid and Piratebay. 3rd Party Drivers: third party drivers can be found on wiki: If you have successfully gotten dual-boot running on your pc using my guide, please post back here with the following things as reference for other people:. Name of the ISO you used, with version number.
